National Physical Therapy Month

By Brianna Hall, Director of Development, Medical Billing Center

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and this is a time to celebrate everything that goes into this amazing industry and the people that run it. The profession you chose and the business you built around it genuinely deserve recognition for the amazing service you provide.

A Profession That Earned Its Own Month

National Physical Therapy Month has been observed every October since 1992, when APTA expanded what had previously been a single awareness week into a full month-long campaign. The roots go back even further, to 1981, when APTA first dedicated October to celebrating the profession and educating the public about the benefits of physical activity and physical therapy. Over four decades, that observance has grown into one of the most recognized healthcare awareness campaigns in the country, supported by tens of thousands of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students who carry the message into their communities each year.

More than two million people searched for an APTA member PT on ChoosePT.com in 2025 alone, which speaks to a public that is increasingly aware that physical therapy exists as an option and is actively looking for providers. The profession this campaign celebrates has changed enormously over those four decades, and the month gives everyone in it a chance to reflect on how far it has come and where it is headed next.

This Year’s Theme: PT For Future Me

APTA’s current campaign, PT For Future Me, is built around an idea that is simple but genuinely worth sitting with. Physical therapy is not only something you seek after an injury but it is an investment in who you will be years from now, and your ability to stay active and capable across every stage of life.

The campaign asks people to think about their future selves and what it will actually take to get there feeling well. A younger patient recovering from a sports injury, a middle-aged patient managing chronic pain and trying to stay functional at work, an older patient working to maintain the balance and strength that keep them independent, physical therapy has a meaningful role at every one of those moments. PT For Future Me is designed to help the public understand that scope in a way that goes beyond the traditional injury-and-recovery narrative.

For clinic owners, this framing matters beyond marketing because it reflects how the profession is positioning itself for long-term relevance in a healthcare environment that is increasingly focused on prevention, function, and demonstrated value. The practices that build around that vision are the ones best positioned to grow alongside it.

How to Get Involved This Month

National PT Month is most powerful when the people who know the profession best are the ones amplifying the message. There are simple, meaningful ways to participate whether you are a clinic owner, a clinician, or someone who has been helped by physical therapy.

Sharing patient success stories, with appropriate consent, is one of the most effective things a clinic can do during October. A real story about a real person who avoided surgery, returned to the sport they love, or regained the independence they thought they had lost does more to communicate the value of PT than any statistic. APTA’s social media hashtags, #PTMonth, #PTForFutureMe, and #ChoosePT, connect those stories to a national conversation that is already happening.

Clinic owners can also use this month to strengthen their community presence by hosting events, offering educational content for patients and referring providers, or simply making sure their Find a PT profile on ChoosePT.com is current and complete so new patients can find them. Over two million people searched for an APTA member PT on ChoosePT.com in 2025, which means the directory is genuinely being used by people actively looking for care.

For the clinical team, this is also a good moment to recognize each other. The work physical therapists and PTAs do is physically and emotionally demanding, and the outcomes they produce are often life-changing for the people on the receiving end. A profession worth a full month of awareness is worth celebrating internally, not just externally.

MBC Is Proud to Support the Profession

MBC was built by physical therapists, for physical therapists, and this month means something to us that goes beyond the calendar. We work every day alongside clinic owners who are doing demanding, meaningful work in a complicated reimbursement environment, and we consider it our job to make sure the business side of that work never gets in the way of the clinical side.

If this month has you thinking about where your practice stands operationally, what your numbers look like, or whether your billing is keeping pace with the care you are delivering, we would love to have that conversation with you.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month to every PT, PTA, student, and clinic owner doing the work.
